StrYvers - Youth Leadership (12-16)

The StrYvers program is for youth 12-16 years old. In this program youth will be exposed to a variety of physical activities, will explore group dynamics and interaction, and participate in activities aimed at developing their sense of individuality and self-worth.

Leaders will also be given the opportunity to explore principles of learning and teaching, explore and develop their personal values, learn life skills, and develop a sense of responsibility to the community. Youth must be members to register for this program.

Program runs from September 2009 - June 2010.

NM: Non-member registration will not be taken for this program.

Monday 6:30 - 7:30pm

Counselors in Training (12-16)

This summer leadership program is for youth interested in developing their counseling and leadership skills. Through volunteer opportunities with our day camps, team building exercises and other fun activities, participants will have an opportunity to learn some program planning and behavior management techniques camp games and activities.

To receive their certificate of achievement youth must volunteer a minimum of two weeks in our day camps during the summer. We have extremely high expectations for this energetic, positive, caring and fun group as the counselors of tomorrow. Youth must complete this course before volunteering at the YMCA.

Program runs July 5 - 9, 2010

Monday to Friday 8:30 - 4:30 pm

Babysitters Course (11-14)

An instructional course on the basics of babysitting to include age characteristics, emergency procedures, role playing situations, parent expectations, to assist in the preparation of babysitting.

This course will teach you everything you need to know in order to be a great babysitter. Course includes a full colored, illustrated handbook. Graduates will receive their babysitting certification card. This course is recognized under the Alberta Occupational Health and Safety.
