Steps to Becoming a Lifeguard

All 3 awards will use the Canadian Lifesaving Manual.
1) Bronze Star
Prerequisite: None Bronze Star is a pre-Bronze Medallion training standard. In Bronze Star participants develop problem solving and decision-making skills. They learn CPR and develop Water Smart confidence and the lifesaving skills needed to be their own personal lifeguard.
2) Bronze Medallion
Prerequisite: 13 years or Bronze Star Enhance your understanding of lifesaving principles and skills. Learn tows, carries, release methods, victim assessment, and emergency care.
3) Bronze Cross
Prerequisite: Bronze Medallion This program teaches you the difference between lifesaving and lifeguarding, giving you the direction on how to safely supervise in an aquatic facility. This course covers emergency procedures, injury assessment, and spinal injury management.
Lifesaving Camp
August 24 -27, 2010
Mon - Thu / 8-4pm
Prerequisite: 13 years or Bronze Star Earn your Bronze Medallion and Bronze Cross Awards in one course.
NLS Original Certification Course
Prerequisites: 16 years, Bronze Cross, CPR, and Standard First Aid or AEC
The NLS program develops the basic lifeguarding skills, principles, and decision-making process to help lifeguards evaluate and adapt to different aquatic facilities and emergencies.
